So, I picked him up to cuddle with him and noticed that his feet were a little wet. I put my hand to my nose and smelled urine. You know, that mineral smell. I wiped his feet off and washed my own hands. Later on in the bathroom, I noticed yellow liquid in the sink – just a few drops. I bent over to smell it and, sure enough, it was urine.
Unless my boyfriend is playing one heck of a practical joke, or I’m sleep-peeing in the middle of the night, then my kitten is going in the sink.
The worst part is that I’ve seen yellow drops in there before, but always assumed that it was soap residue or hair gel or cologne or something else. I never suspected urine!
I keep his litter box very clean. Scoop 1-2 times a day; add fresh litter to the top every few days; clean out the box and add all new fresh litter every 1-2 weeks. He has no reason for complaints.
He’s probably going into the sink because of the fresh water and then getting ‘inspired’ once he’s in there. He’s still doing his ‘other business’ in the litter box with no problems, except once he ran out of his box really fast before he was finished going. I think something startled him.
Anyway, I bleached the kitchen and bathroom sinks and cleaned out his litter box again today even though I just did it a few days ago.
Any other tips? Explanations? Anyone want to commiserate?

Him sleeping on his back in our bed before we had a chance to make it.
No, this has nothing to do with urine. It’s just my way of thanking you for your help.
Also, he still does urinate in his box. I think this is an occasional thing because I find urine in there every day.
deadsmiley – he just turned five months old.
He’s huge for his age, I know. He’s definitely a kitten.

Meooww
its most probly because its private and clean
well my cat used to sh*t in the tub.. disgusting right? i think it just looks like a huge litter box to them or something. he probably sees all the running water and just assumes thats what its for.
cute cat though i dont think its a kitten
I don’t know. I think he does that because he thinks that is where he is supposed to go to have a loo =P I never had a cat, a dog I did, but she never peed in the sink xD Good luck with your cute kitten =)
I have no clue why he would be doing this but the picture is just adorable!! anyways I would not worry too much about it just try to keep all the bathroom doors closed and keep an eye on him when he’s in the kitchen, and if you catch him in the act redirect him so he knows where it is that he needs to go.
Clean the litterbox at least once every couple days (rather than every few weeks). Cats like the places to be immaculate.
Try simply leaving an inch of water or so in the sink. Your cat will probably go for an accidental swim once and then decide not to do it again!!
Good luck!
Set up a hidden video camera and see who’s doing it. If it’s the cat, try putting the litter box near the sink. If it has a top on it take it off.
One of my cats sometimes pees in the shower drain or the kitchen sink drain. It’s always over the drain so it’s easy to rinse down. I’m grateful for it since it’s even easier than cleaning the box. Good kitty.
But if you really want to stop her, try putting Cat Attract litter in her box. There’s something in it that stimulates them to pee, so maybe she just won’t have as much left to squirt down your drain.
Also, there are kits for toilet-training your cat. Since she likes to do it anyway, you might be able to totally train her to only use the toilet, which would be really awesome.
My cat did almost the same thing today.
Well,
I was running a bath, my cat refused to leave the bathroom, so I had to lock her in with me. She jumped up onto the side of the bath slipped on the wet then fell in. I rescued her and got badly scratched. I took her out, she was so scared she did a pee. She has done this before, when she is in the sink, trying to drink from the tap, if she gets to wet, she does a pee.
Weird Huh?
Running water makes me want to go. Lol.
my kitten did that too. he must be attracted to something within the sink. perhaps its the soap, or maybe you have some kind of design it likes. kittens are very precise, and can behave very strangely because of even patterns that they like. i suggest just closing the door to the bathroom, and put something like mouse scent in his litter box. only once though, because he could get psyched out if there are no mice.
My cat does the same thing in the tub when she has a bladder infection. Which is why there is only a few drops, they feel like they have to pee but only a few drops come out.
He may have a urinary tract infection that causes him pain.
So, he associates the litter box with pain which makes him try to find somewhere else to go, hoping he won’t get the pain.
The fact that he ran out of his litter box really fast suggests that the pain set in and made him try to run away.
We had a similar problem with one of our kittens but a trip to the vet soon solved it.
Please take kitty to the vet.
I used to work for the humane society and so many cats were surrendered because the owners said they didn’t use the litter box when it was just a simple infection that is so easy to treat.
Hope this works.
My cat pees in the bathtub. I think she is just drinking water and then having to go quickly–she’s old. I’m just glad it can be washed down the drain and it is not on the floor.
male cats that have a urinary tract infection tend to pee in the sink – they will still use their litter box but using the sink is a sure sign that your kitty has a UTI. You need to take him to the vet to get meds to clear it up.
cuz thats how god made him/her
Your boyfriend’s walking in his sleep and mistaking the sink for the toilet. lol
My cat did that too. We just kept the door to the bathroom shut and she eventually stopped. Its very weird, but i was just glad it wasn’t on the floor. Maybe he’s too sophisticated for the litterbox, toilet train him.
because the last time he Peed in the toaster it got shocked
better in the sink than on your carpet, purses, important documents… like mine. start showing the toilet he might learn to use it. he is not that far off it seems.
