I just got a kitten and I introduced her to our 4 year old dog which is half terrier and Spitz. Our dog doesn’t have young of her own yet so she started taking care of the kitten right away like guarding her while she was sleeping hiding underneath the couch on her first day at our home. We suspected that her natural maternal instincts came out and probably thought the kitten was her litter. hehehe anyway, yesterday we were so shocked to see the kitten sucking on the breast of our dog like it was her mama. it was such a funny moment and we took a video. But what we are worried about if this was ok? I mean our dog hasn’t given birth ever and maybe her nipples will get injured and render it unusable if our kitty continues suckling from her. We are concerned about her future puppies. Our dog at times grimaces from the pain she felt because maybe the kitten is sucking too hard trying to get milk out when there isn’t any.
and is it normal for a kitten to think a dog is her mother??
