Is it possible for me to get a cat?

I’m 15 this year and have experienced many pets before including rabbit, hamsters, red ear slider, fishes, birds, and water dragon but never,a cat.I never like cats before since my friends said the smell of the poops is extremely bad, hard to look after and lot of negative talks about a cat.One day,my neighbor shows me and my mother a kitten. It’s really cute(3 months old and it eyes are blue). She talked about her new kitten and make me really want to have one.Ar what age can I have one?8 weeks or so?

Forgot to mention,I owned a rabbit now(11 months old and he is not neutered). How to introduce the kitten to my Minnie? Is it possible that both of them can have a bad fight?I hate if my pets poop and pee around my house so how to litter train the kitten?I don’t want the kitten to sleep in my bed too in case of fleas so what is the suitable bed for it?(pictures, please)?

Let say I’m holding the kitten on my shoulder(like my neighbor did)is it possible that the kitten suddenly bite or even scratch me without reason although I’m patting it gently? And do cats attack their owner without reasons, too? How to bathe the kitten? If I called my kitten its name, would it come to me(my Minnie never did)?

Please send me any link about cats. Thanks for your help.

Around 8 weeks is a normal age to get a kitten. Once you do get a kitten, make sure you get it fixed and it’s shots. (Take it to a vet) Also, the vet will Frontline the kitten to get rid of any fleas. If you get the kitten from a shelter, I highly recommend no kill shelters, they will already be flea free, and alot of times have their shots and fixed already.

Gradually introduce the kitten to the rabbit. They could fight, but the kitten would be a lot smaller and more likely to get hurt. Let them sniff at each other while one is in a cage. Don’t force them together, let them get used to each other safely. You’ll know if they get along of not.

Kittens will know how to use the littler box. When you bring it home, make sure you take it to the litter box periodically during the first couple of days, just so it knows where it is at. If you don’t want the kitten to sleep with you, a kitty bed would be an essential thing to have anyways, but if she wants to sleep with you, she will sleep with you.

Kittens especially, don’t attack randomly. They will bite and kick occasionally during play, but you can teach them not to by stop playing with them as soon as they bite.

Cats really don’t need to be given baths, since they do really well with cleaning themselves. And most hate water. But if you do want to bathe it, I would highly suggesting kitty batheing wipes. They work really well and get the job done, without the trauma of water.

Sounds like you friends are just not big cat fans. Litter boxes can be stinky, but it’s not like human bathrooms smell good.

PS: Don’t let your cat outside. There is so many dangers to cats, fenced in yard or not. They can get out. Dogs, other cats, wild animals, cars, abusive people, diseases, etc. Keep her indoors. Indoor cats have longer, safer lives. Also she needs fresh water everyday. Would you like to drink stagnant, week old water? Every time you feed her she should get fresh water, too.

if you love cat, then you should get a cat. I was like you and always favoured dogs and scared of the pee and poo. Well, guess what, each dog walk was a bag of poo to pick. We now have a bi color ragdoll and he is the most beautiful thing ever and once a kitten is properly trained, you dont have to do anytime, except taking out the cat litter. Make sure you have a kitten after 12 weeks, they are really ready at this point and boy cats play more that girl cat. And make sure he is desexed if you want an indoor cat. otherwise he will pee and mark his territory around the house.
    Good luck

cats shouldn’t bee too hard to look after.
all you have to do is feed it, bath it when it smells or is dirty, pet it, and let it inside the house.
to get rid of fleas, there are a whole range of products to exterminate fleas and worms.
once you and your cat get to know each other, or you are really nice to it, then it will let you pat it and will show affection towards you.
cats are really just like humans, they treat the people they like with affection and love, and don’t go near the people they hate.
just remember to treat the cat how you want it to treat you, and before you know it, she’ll be on your lap, purring and sleeping.

Well you have had many pets but cats are not bad pets. My cat ‘Whiskar’ a female 18 year old cat is a pleasure to have and is no trouble at all. They are easy to look after. About 2 meals a day fresh water at least every week and somewhere nice warm and comfy for them to sleep. And once they are older and litter trained they can sleep in your bed.

WOW all those exotic pets you be having and you are concern about CAT!! awe…

well cats are super easy to take car off…all you need is food, water, and a litter box…

cats knows how to use the litter box the moment you place it into one, its like an instinct to them, dont stress too much about litter…they learn it themselves

cats are not like other pet, they dont want your attention, so if you have a busy life and need a little animal buddy, cats are the best, dont need walking, or taking it to use the bathroom…

they just go to you when they feel like it, mostly when ur free…

trust me cats are easy to take care of, and if you have a backyard that is fence up good, its even better the litter box can be out door in yoru backyard, and if its was me, i would have a little cat house too

Cats are great pets but the saying is true "Dogs have Masters, Cats have Servants" they can be demanding, aloof, rude on one hand and then on the other extremely loving and loyal. I have always had cats and dogs and at the moment I have 2 beautiful cats, 1 dog and a rabbit. You seem quite neurotic about the cat ie: I don’t want it sleeping with me incase I get fleas well cats are one of the cleanest creatures God ever put on this earth and providing you use a recommended flea treatment once a month (mine like revolution) which not only treats fleas but worms etc you won’t have a flea problem, you must also treat your rabbit as one can transfer to the other. The rabbit and the cat can slowly be introduced to each other what I did with Charlie my rabbit was have my cats and dog get used to him in his cage first and then I put him in with my youngest cat in the cat cage (they are house cats and don’t go outside unless it is into their cat enclosure) and all she did was rub up against him, and lick him, she was being extremely friendly. People down the road had a rabbit that would run around the front yard with the cat and there were no problems, just supervise them at first especially as for the time being the kitten will be smaller. Do you have local cat protection society? I suggest the best thing for you is to go down there and talk to the people who run it and they can fill you in on all the questions you have concerning cats and maybe rather than buying a cat you can foster one just to see how it goes as you seem to have alot of doubts and you don’t always have to go for the kitten.

Well with puppies it is 8-weeks-old to leave the litter, I am not sure about kittens. If you keep the litter boxes clean, they won’t smell. I am not sure about how easy it is to litter box train them, I think most cats use a litter box, they like the ones with covers over them for privacy. I think it is rare for them to potty in the house, but I know some do. I am not sure if kittens and bunnies get along, that might me something you just have to test for yourself. I would think, but don’t know, that bunnies and cats would not likely get along. I would imagine that cats sleep where ever they want to. If the cat got fleas, you might be able to get a flea powder for the hair. I guess your pet store might have a bed for the cat, most cats like to sleep on furniture. You also have to consider that cats scratch furniture, so the cat could ruin the couch or chairs, you might have to de-claw the cat so she doesn’t ruin your things. Cats do scratch, I never had one bite me though, but our cats were outside cats. I don’t think you need to bathe cats, they clean themselves. I guess you could wash it in the sink or tub.
